On nights when theatre and I are arguing, I threaten to become a carpenter. I haven’t (yet). I work where acting, performance-making and dramaturgy blur to become one continuous practice.
I studied acting (BA) at the late Norwegian Theatre Academy (Akademi for scenekunst). Since then I’ve created pieces for Black Box Teater, Bergen International Theatre, Det Norske Teateret and collaborated with companies such as Vinge/Müller and Verk Produksjoner.
In my work, theatre is a shared space held among the audience, my co-creators and me. To make room for that, the work stays open, with the endings left loose. It is an invitation to make it your own. I tend to make work that trusts the audience, leaving a generous middle ground, where we meet. The intent is so you finish the piece with your own experience, and each night tilts a little differently with new people in the room.
Sometimes it’s only a small shift in the weather, a little slower, a little sharper, a little more raw. In the end I disappear into the piece until I’m lost in the avalanche and can’t tell what’s up or down. Eventually I dig a tunnel, and it usually turns out to be an entrance.
